Head to Frelighsburg, one of Québec’s most beautiful towns.
This circuit will have you experience a true immersion in the heart of the Eastern Townships’ wine region. Mostly paved, this 76-kilometre route promises to be a challenge because of its length and a few climbs that require good calve muscles. Nearby, you’ll have the opportunity to visit 5 of the region’s vineyards.
To extend your pleasure by enjoying an overnight stay in our Bienvenue cyclistes accommodations established along the itinerary.
First Stop
In the heart of the Route des vins, the Val-Caudalie vineyard grows its fine quality fruit on an amazing terroir facing the Appalachian Mountains and transforms their harvest into savoury wines and ciders. Founded in the spring of 2005 by three “old” high school friends — Guillaume Leroux, Julien Vaillancourt and Alexis Perron — today, the domain radiates throughout and beyond the region thanks to their shared passion and sense of pride. For nearly twenty years (and six kids) later, and year after year, this close-knit trio continues to forge Val Caudalies’s reputation. Guests will enjoy the vineyard’s vast covered terrace. From here, they can admire an amazing view overlooking the valley while sampling products ranging from traditional wines to their own creations, including craft vermouth, their ice ciders and sparkling wines.
Second Stop
Nestled inside the picturesque Relais de la Diligence, a historic building dating back to 1865, the Brasserie Dunham microbrewery has been inviting guests to discover their craft beers since 2011. Inspired by European brewing traditions while embracing American modernist methods, the master brewers propose a vast portfolio of flavours to tantalize any palate! Barrel-aged beer, high lulupin content, intensely fruity or delicately wild. The adjacent restaurant pub is the ideal venue for savouring these beers on site, accompanied by delicious cuisine, both indoors in the friendly ambiance of the old mail relay station, or on the magnificent sunbathed terrace.
Third Stop
The Naud family has been growing grapevines in Brigham for 30 years and it’s now the founder’s son, Simon, who runs the estate. Book a guided tour, take advantage of the beautiful terrace where you’ll enjoy local food and wine pairings with homemade terrines and charcuteries, local cheeses and chocolates. Then, stop by the animal park to say hello to the residents.
Fourth Stop
Les Petits Fruilato
Maude Charbonneau-Poitras and Michael Lagacé, dedicated fourth generation fruit producers, grow a wide range of berries. These include blueberries, raspberries, honeyberries, black and red currants, gooseberries and blackberries. A picnic area allows you to enjoy the domain established in a bucolic natural country setting.
Fifth Stop
Vignoble l'Ardennais
The charm of the countryside begins as soon as you turn onto Ridge Road: a picturesque road lined with centuries-old maples. The first vines were planted in 1994 in soil ideal for this cultivation. “Our vision is to cultivate the vine while nourishing the land and respecting the wildlife that inhabits it.” The main grape varieties Pinot Noir, Seyval, Chancellor, Petite Pearl, Riesling and Marquette are vinified as naturally as possible. Come and enjoy our terrace where you can taste our wines accompanied by a platter of antipasti.
Sixth Stop
In the heart of the vineyards, come taste what nature has to offer at the Domaine du Ridge. Once on Ridge road you will find yourself in a natural tunnel of majestic trees that lead you to our vineyard. The pastoral landscape charms all passerbys and our wines impress all tastebuds! A large terrace, boutique, wine tasting, game of petanque, group events and special activities during the harvest.
Seventh
Vignoble Le Di-Vin
Rich in 25 years of experience in growing vines before settling, it was in 2021 that the owners of Vignoble Le Di-Vin marketed their first wines. Established in a microclimate ideal for cultivating vines, the Vignoble Le Di-Vin applies cultivation methods that promote biodiversity and respect for the environment, in particular the planting of different plants (green manure) and tillage. It is therefore with the constant concern for continuous improvement of its techniques that the vineyard has recently equipped itself with ultramodern equipment that has already proven itself in Europe.
Eight Stop
Vignoble Pigeon Hill
The Vignoble Pigeon Hill is an innovative family run vineyard using regenerative agricultural practices. Established in the municipality of Saint-Armand, Pigeon Hill has been producing their unique vibrant, organic wines since 2008, always with respect to the region’s biodiversity. Matthew, Manon, Trisha, Kevin and Thomas all work in the fields of the Shufelt family farm, dating back to 1964. Here, sheep, chickens and ducks maintain the rows between the Marquette, Petite Perle and Frontenac grapevines. Their wine cellar was built with lumber from the farm’s forest and testifies to their terroir commitment, where each action aims to encourage the regeneration of their ecosystem for producing their complex and flavourful wines.
Ninth Stop
A true gathering hub, Beat & Betterave warmly welcomes you for a friendly discussion, to eat, drink and enjoy artists perform in an intimate ambiance. The owners, Ludovic and Éloïse, brew their own beer onsite and propose a menu concocted with local ingredients. This fertile, friendly venue encourages you to experience authentic moments while savouring their craft beers available right here and to take home.
